Give your postgraduates and new researchers the edge - for life
Making a coherent plan for developing postgraduates in all the key skill areas as well as their subject specific
development is no mean feat. It means co-ordinating and running a whole host of different development activities to meet the needs of the student.
"This has been the single most useful course I have done at Uni" HW Cardiff
Interestingly the one thing that holds most students back is fear. Often it's fear of failure that holds them back, however anxieties and nerves in a number of different areas also contribute to performance problems. The examples are many and range from nerves about doing presentations and vivas causing worry and anxiety through to students failing to complete their degree programme due to anxieties and fears about their own abilities.
"Thank you, I will use these techniques for the rest of my life" DF Oxford
Postgraduate Problems
Some of the areas postgraduates and new researchers often have difficulties with in terms of nerves and anxieties include:
- Having to do presentations
- Vivas
- Job interviews
- Stress
- General confidence, etc.
This unique, positive and compelling one-day workshop shows people how to deal with their negative emotions quickly and effectively and acquire valuable emotional resilience for whenever they need it - a true life skill

Background
The workshop was initially designed for the emergency services and disaster workers who have to control their fears in a range of exacting situations. Following requests from academics for help dealing with their anxieties and fears when lecturing to large groups, giving research presentations and similar situations, the HE version of the course was piloted in a number of universities and has quickly become a very popular workshop that consistently gets excellent feedback ratings. A number of Universities are now running this course regularly throughout the year for their postgraduates with great feedback.
"All my friends have booked on the next course. I told them all about and they have seen the change in me. I have started to enjoy things I wouldn't have believed possible even just a month ago" TR Portsmouth
